‘England might have won, but they were utterly woeful’

”England were utterly woeful. Devoid of game plan and talent. Watch the AB’s second string v Japan for entertainment. I’m glad I wasn’t at Twickenham this afternoon.”

‘Owen Farrell – superb’

@A Galland:

”Good confidence booster for England, but really, it’s more a case of the Boks losing it with poor handling and line out throwing.

”England’s pack was on the receiving end for most of the game, but De Allende made so much ground that Salde and T’eo must be in doubt for the future. Daly, May and Nowell looked dangerous but Itoje must either learn how to play without giving away penalties or look for a different sport.

”Man of the match was Owen Farrell – superb. Hung tough and took the hits.”

‘To hold the Boks and gain a narrow win is a big acheivement’

@Jim Mckinley:

”The South Africans have a settled side who have been playing together all of the Southern Hemisphere season. The All Blacks are in the same position. For a disrupted England side to hold the Boks and gain a narrow win is a big acheivement.

”For those who would suggest that the outcome hinged on one penalty decision, go back and look at the last dozen international tests and you will find the same sort of controversy in every game.”
